Liberal Democrats in the three Boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea, Hammersmith & Fulham and Westminster have chosen MERLENE EMERSON to be the candidate for the West Central constituency on the London Assembly.

Merlene will be standing in the elections on 1st May 2008. A lawyer by profession, Merlene is also a trustee of a charity based in Central London and Director of a housing association. She told us:

"The three boroughs that comprise the West Central constituency on the London Assembly are undeniably a privileged place to live. There are however many neighbourhoods suffering from a lack of attention from the Tory controlled local administrations. Violent crime has been rising and public transport is creaking under the strain of 100 million visitors to London a year.

"It is important that local residents do not find themselves priced out or have to move in order to find decent schools and health care services.

"I would like to stress that the Liberal Democrats are the Real Alternative to the Labour Government and to Conservative Local Government, neither of which are open nor sufficiently accountable to you. Only with the Liberal Democrats can you be assured of an open and transparent government that puts the people and community at the heart of decision making. Not spin and image. And not arrogance and complacency."
